Saffron Walden

Our Lady of Compassion

Updated 14 May 2022

Our Lady of Compassion is OPEN

Sunday obligation

From Pentecost Sunday, the Bishops of England and Wales have reinstated the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. This does not apply to those who have Covid, or long Covid, the vulnerable or the shielding ó nor, obviously, the sick and housebound.

Attending Mass - Latest Covid Guidelines for Churches

As announced recently we have opened the church up further, allowing more of us to attend Mass. The levels of the virus are still very high in this area, so please continue to be very careful. We ask you to continue to wear masks when in the building and sanitise your hands when entering and leaving.

If you are unable to attend in person, please join us online - details below.

Help from our SVP

In these difficult times the SVP is continuing its local support work as much as is possible, communicating by phone now visiting has been prohibited. If you, or someone you know, may need support, or if you feel you can help in any way, please contact Jean Perkins or call on 01799 522135.

Like other churches in Saffron Walden, the Catholic church has a lively and numerous congregation, drawing its parishioners from a geographically large parish, stretching from Steeple Bumpstead to Chrishall, from Great Chesterford to Newport and forming part of the North Essex Deanery of the Diocese of Brentwood.

Our website is part of the framework in which we parishioners work together. It contains details of the organisational groups which are the external shape of our commitment to God, our parish and each other. You and your family are welcome to join us on our journey of faith. We welcome contributions to the website from parishioners - please send us details of parish activities so that we we can publicise them.

If you are new to the Parish, have moved recently or are planning to move please email Fr David Clemens.
