Children's Liturgy Group

The Children's Liturgy Group in our parish is part of the 10:30 Sunday Liturgical Celebration. It is for children in infant classes at primary school i.e. reception, year one and year two. These children meet in the parish hall prior to the beginning of Mass and join the rest of congregation in the church after the prayer of the Faithful. During this time the children benefit from following the Mass at a pace and level they can understand.

After saying a Penitential rite and the Gloria, catechists lead the group in the Liturgy of the Word. The Gospel is read and explained to the children which is usually followed by a discussion. The children may act out the story or prepare individual pictures or group displays to develop their understanding further. Often the group will take creative contributions into the church as part of the Offertory procession to share with the congregation.

The Children's Liturgy Group is monthly (typically first Sunday of the month) except during school holidays. A leader and helper prepare each session, organised on a rota basis. New children are always very welcome and parents of children attending the group are asked to contribute a little time occasionally.
